Look for onion grass!

onion grass

The appearance of onion grass is a sure sign that Spring is here. Onion grass comes up early and is now taller than regular grass. The skinny leaves of onion grass are tubular instead of flat like lawn grass blades. But, if you are not sure what you are looking at is onion grass, pick a leaf and sniff it. If it smells like onion, or maybe garlic, it is onion grass.

Onion grass is edible. The green parts are like chives. Anyone for sour cream and chives on your baked potato?

If cows eat onion grass it can make the milk taste like onions - yuck.
